COVID-19 Metadata Commons

Purpose

Metadata is ‘data about data’. It is the summary and description about a dataset that can be used to classify, organize, label, and understand the data.

The COVID-19 Metadata Commons project, lead by Data Science and Health (DASH) at UBC, is centered around developing and implementing a set of tools for the collection and cataloging of metadata information for COVID-19-related research datasets in B.C. The goal is to leverage the common research interest of COVID-19 and create a platform where metadata can be catalogued, shared, and discovered quickly and easily. By combining metadata from a wide range of datasets, it will be possible for researchers to identify and access relevant datasets that may be used to expand their scope of analysis and facilitate collaboration between research groups.

Our Involvement

The metadata collection system and framework uses the OBiBa software stack, which is hosted on FoM Digital Solutions servers. Our team will take care of handling the data in the system, which is loaded from REDCap and RISe.
