Gurm Dhugga

Gurm is a senior IT leader with extensive experience supporting health research, working collaboratively with researchers to understand and develop digital infrastructure that meets broad scientific needs. Gurm has led the development of a digital service portfolio encompassing high-performance computing, clinical research systems, data management, application development, and integration. Gurm also has significant experience working collaboratively with the Provincial Health Services Authority (PHSA) and the University IT in supporting the research and education mission of UBC faculty. His education includes technical training in computer networking and systems from the BC Institute of Technology and a Master's of Business Administration from Simon Fraser University.

Kenny has been working with medical education and research since 2009. During that time, he was involved with numerous research projects at the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Newfoundland and Labrador, the Canadian Cancer Society of Newfoundland and Labrador, and Memorial University. Additionally, Kenny has extensive experience working with vulnerable and at-risk populations and has a strong understanding of how to work with and support those communities. Since 2015, Kenny has been working with Digital Solutions, first as an AV analyst and moving to a business analyst in 2019. He strives to engage with clients to find technological solutions to support their needs, whether for research or medical education. Kenny has completed a Master's of Public Health from Memorial University while working with UBC, and also has completed a Graduate Diploma in Community Health.

Ashley McKerrow

Ashley is an experienced data management professional with over 12 years of experience supporting health research. She started at the BC Children’s Hospital Research Institute and built a successful team that supports full research data services, including training and education, data support, and platform validation. Under her leadership, the data management team facilitated hundreds of active research studies, and is recognized by peers as a standard for data management processes and documentation.

Anastasia Dropol

With 7 years of clinical research experience in pediatric rare diseases, Anastasia shifted focus to research data management in 2018, providing clinical, lab and translational research data management support to staff within PHSA. A recent member of the team, Anastasia looks forward to providing tailored support to UBC Faculty of Medicine researchers in finding digital solutions for their research needs.

Domena has worked in Data Management for UBC for over 13 years. Prior to joining Digital Solutions, she was working as a Data Coordinator with the Vaccine Evaluation Center (VEC) at the BC Children's Research Institute (BCCHR). She has also worked as a Software Developer on various Global Maternal Health projects in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology.

With 5 years of experience in international humanitarian work, specializing in safe drinking water, sanitation, and hygiene promotion (WASH), Yeram shifted her focus to data management within charities and NGOs in 2018. She recently completed her Bachelor's degree in computer science at the University of British Columbia (UBC). In 2022, she joined UBC's Faculty of Medicine as a Database Developer for the International Collaboration on Repair Discoveries (ICORD). She is thrilled to be part of Digital Solutions, where she aims to provide further support to the health research community.

Naveen Karduri

Ashley has over 5 years of experience as a developer, and a strong familiarity with research platforms. She completed her Bachelor's in computer science with the University of British Columbia (UBC) in 2018. She recently joined UBC’s Faculty of Medicine in 2022, after working at the BC Children's hospital Research Institute as a senior programmer for over 5 years. She is excited to contribute and further develop her skills, as a scientific analyst.

Shahed Sherkat

Shahed has over 22 years of experience as an IT professional in different industries such as banking, healthcare, and education. As a senior systems administrator, he enjoys using technology to enable researchers, students, and staff to achieve their goals and mandates. Before joining the University of British Columbia, Shahed worked as a systems and network architect for the IT arm of a private bank with more than 200 branches in the Middle East.

Ryoko Norden

Ryoko has over 20 years of experience in DevOps, trading floor systems analysis, and network and infrastructure support. With her diverse and multicultural background, which includes working in Japan, Singapore, Hong Kong, UK, Germany, and Canada, and her belief in education, she has found the perfect place to grow herself and others in the university environment.

Razvan Parlea

Razvan is a skilled IT professional with more than 10 years of experience with in-depth knowledge of architecting, installing, and configuring computing systems. Since joining UBC’s Faculty of Medicine IT in 2013, he has provided IT consultation and support while maintaining a high degree of customer service to UBC research and academic units on mixed platform environments such as Linux, Windows and macOS.

Isaias brings more than 10 years of experience architecting, building, and supporting IT infrastructure in academic environments, including private and public cloud systems, enterprise storage, traditional networking, and next generation layer 7 firewalls. His wholistic approach to infrastructure allows him to provide custom solutions to non-standard environments.

Students

Krithik is a UBC student majoring in Statistics. He is currently a second year student and has completed courses focused on the different Statistical Models and Data Visualization. Krithik is excited to learn from and contribute to the Digital Solutions Team.

Ryan is a UBC student studying a combined major in Computer Science and Microbiology. He has hands-on experience from working in the research centre of VGH, as well as technical knowledge gained from completing courses in software development and database design. Ryan looks forward to learning from and contributing to the Digital Solutions Team.

Alumni

Claire is a nursing student at UBC, with a previous degree in Behavioural Neuroscience. She first became involved with Digital Solutions in 2021 as a Media and Learning Technologies Assistant, and is excited to continue supporting the Faculty of Medicine as a Research Data Management Student.

Sheetal recently graduated from UBC with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics. Before joining the team, she gained experience in various aspects of research while working on a multidisciplinary health-technology research project. She utilizes her background in research and applied mathematics to specialize in data visualization, integration, and management.

Moira is a UBC student majoring in Statistics and minoring in Data Science. During her undergraduate studies, she has completed courses that focused on constructing statistical models and data visualizations, developing reproducible workflows, and managing databases. Moira is excited to contribute to and learn from the Digital Solutions team.

Annie is a third-year UBC undergraduate student, specializing in computer science and statistics. She comes from a technical background with a strong interest in data management and software development. She enjoys using technology to help clinical researchers and research groups in the medical industry. She is passionate about contributing her effort and developing her skills on the research data management team.

Jayson studied accounting and marketing at Simon Fraser University and has over 18 years of IT experience, supporting service operations, from desktop and infrastructure to service delivery. This has allowed him to have a true appreciation of the customer experience. He is a certified ITIL 4 Managing Professional which has helped him understand and design services that are practical for his customers.
