Schedule
9:00 am – 9.05 am
Introduction
9.05 am – 9.35 am
Dr. Cheryl Ho – Clinical Associate Professor of Medicine, BC Cancer, Division of Medical Oncology, UBC
Dr. Shira Yair Sabag – Certified Clinical Research Project Manager (ACRP), Ph.D. in Biology and MPH in Epidemiology
Drs. Ho and Dr. Sabag will be presenting on PREDiCT, PRecision Oncology Evidence Development in Cancer Treatment, a research platform that uses real world evidence to help shape new sustainable reimbursement pathways for personalized cancer treatments. Dr. Ho will also discuss the use of the UBC REDCap database for managing post-graduate fellowship applications to BC Cancer.
9.35 am – 10.05 am
Dr. Ying Wang – Assistant Professor, Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, UBC
Dr. Wang will be presenting on Connecting Clinical Data with Human Biospecimens to Advance Cardiovascular Research. Dr. Wang obtained her PhD from Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, University of British Columbia. After her postdoc training on translational cardiovascular medicine at UBC and Stanford University, Dr. Wang was recruited to UBC in March 2021. Her current research combines the use of biobank human specimens and mechanistic studies to address knowledge gaps in drug repurposing for coronary artery disease.
10.05 am – 10.35 am
Dr. Chithra Pream Raju MBBS, MD – Clinical Assistant Professor, UBC Mood disorders Program, Staff Psychiatrist, Richmond Hospital and Mood Disorders Clinic
Dr. Pream Raju will be presenting about the CBD-BD clinical trial, which aims to determine if cannabidiol (CBD) is helpful in improving symptoms of bipolar depression in comparison to placebo when added to participants’ current medications over a 6-week period. A significant portion of bipolar depressed patients do not respond to, or have difficulty tolerating, existing treatments, thus, the outcomes of this trial will contribute valuable insights to the development of novel and improved therapeutic options for people living with bipolar disorder. This double-blind, phase III, parallel group randomized controlled trial is led by Dr. Lakshmi Yatham at the Mood Disorders Centre in the UBC Department of Psychiatry, with sites across Canada.
10.35 am – 10.50 am
[BREAK]
10.50 am – 11.10 am
Dr. Krista Glowacki – Research Awards Lead, Vancouver Coastal Health Research Institute
Dr. Glowacki will be presenting on Vancouver Coastal Health Research Institute’s (VCHRI) Research Challenge and Team Grant. These two awards enable practice-based research led by health care providers that is directly relevant to their clinical practice. Krista will share learnings and experiences from the pilot launch of Survey Monkey Apply as the grant management platform for these award competitions.
11.10 am – 11.40 am
Brianna Davies – HiRO National Coordinator,Genetic Counsellor, Office of Dr. Andrew Krahn, Division of Cardiology, UBC
Brianna Davies will be presenting on how the HiRO team has developed a Power BI data visualization dashboard to assist with data queries and auditing, assess research project feasibility and identify data quality concerns.
