International Hip Dysplasia Registry

Purpose

The International Hip Dysplasia Registry (IHDR) project is led by the HIPpy Lab at BC Children’s Hospital, with Dr. Kishore Mulpuri and Dr. Emily Shaeffer as lead investigators. The HIPpy team leads and coordinates several prospective international research registries in pediatric orthopaedics. The size and scope of these registries involves upwards of 25 centres across eight countries and five continents, with thousands of patients enrolled worldwide. IHDR is an international pediatric research registry that follows children with developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH), a malformation of the hip socket causing hip dislocation, for their first 10 years of life. The goals of this registry are to develop a better understanding of DDH, including risk factors, screening, or surveillance of the hip, and different treatment approaches such as bracing and surgery.

Our Involvement

IHDR is hosted on REDCap, and our team has helped develop, build, implement and evolve this registry as it grows. Our team is also working to integrate the registry with AMBRA, an image management software, and to create customized reports and data visualization dashboards using Power BI.
